Lammasu
Of all conversations about Ancient Astronaut Theory, the most common seems to be about Ezekial's vision in the Old Testament book of Ezekial chapter 1. The assertion that Ezekial witnessed some sort of craft has now become legend. This UFO legend simply fails on many fronts. The photo above of the Sumerian Lammasu puts emphasis on one. UFO researchers love to point to Hebrew "borrowing" of icons and ideas from their Ancient Near Eastern neighbors- a well known fact among scholars. In the case of Throne Guardian iconography the UFO literature conveniently skips out on the "borrowing" to support the craft theory for Ezekial's vision. The Sumerian Lammasu has all the animal-man elements in Ezekial's vision; but for a throne guardian- not a UFO. Yes, the Hebrews borrowed, or better said, shared this idea of what a throne guardian looked like. Ezekial is in Babylon and what a shock, he communicates to Hebrew Babylonian citizens in Babylonian icons- you know- the way American commercials communicate to Americans with American icons. The Ezekial vision is of the throne of God and this is but one of the proofs for anyone willing to look beyond the legend.
